Leaking Underground Storage Tank Petroleum Cleanup Project
Former State Prison, 14400 S Pony Express Rd., Draper, Utah
Facility ID No. 4002081 and Release Site OFU
The Division of Environmental Response and Remediation (DERR) is planning to oversee the remediation of
the petroleum-contaminated soil at the above site. The environmental consultant for this project is WSP USA
Environment & Infrastructure Inc.
Site Description
The Site is the location of a former diesel underground storage tank. Petroleum hydrocarbons contamination in
soil underneath product piping associated with the storage tank were discovered during removal of the tank in
October 2022. The extent of contamination is an approximate area of one-tenth of an acre, to an approximate
depth of up to 40 feet below the current surface. No hydrocarbon contamination to groundwater were identified
underneath the site.
Proposed Remediation Method
The proposed remediation method is ‘Dig and Haul’ and will consist of the following:
Impacted soils will be dug from the site, loaded directly onto haul trucks, and transported to an off-site
permitted disposal facility. Confirmation soil samples will be collected to ensure the protectiveness of the
remedy for the future commercial/industrial land use planned for the site.
Proposed Schedule
Excavation is planned to begin on or about June 1, 2024 and is expected to take approximately six weeks.
