30 days between exams and exam reviews
An operator must wait 30 days to take an exam in the same discipline if they fail the exam or 30 days after an exam review, whichever is later. If the operator wants to take a different
discipline (treatment or distribution) or increase the grade level by passing a lower level exam, the 30 day waiting period is not required.
Citizenship Forms
All operators must submit a citizenship form either through renewal or applying for an exam. In order to renew one’s certification or take an exam, the Division of Drinking Water must
receive the appropriate application, payment and citizenship form. The citizenship form will only need to be submitted once and the Division of Drinking Water will keep the document
on file.
Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Forms
All continuing education training will be submitted on the appropriate forms created by the Division of Drinking Water.
Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Sign-in
Operators must sign in when attending the morning and afternoon sessions to receive full credit. Those signing in only once will be given half credit for the course.
Exam Reviews
An operator may apply to receive an exam review within two years of taking the exam. After two years the exams will be archived and will no longer be available to review. There is a
30-day waiting period before the operator can retake the exam after an exam review.
Exam Sites
Operator certification exam sites will be proctored in the State of Utah only.
Fees waived for local health departments
Exam fees for Local Health Department staff wanting to take the certification exam will be waived. If a local health department staff member takes an online exam, the $30 online exam
fee will not be waived. The renewal fee will not be waived.
Military Active Duty
Operators who are called to active duty in the United States military will have their certification held in a valid state until the operator returns from active duty. During their tour
of active duty the operator will not be required to obtain continuing education units or renew their certification. Once the operator returns from active duty, their certification will
pick up from when they were called up and all the requirements will be reinstated from that point.
Renewal
Operators will be given an 18 month grace period after their certification has lapsed. The policy will allow the operators to renew for the standard fee for the first six months. After
the first six months the final 12 months will be in a reinstatement category and the reinstatement fee will apply.
