Lakewood, CO 80228 RE: Energy Fuels Resources (USA) Inc., White Mesa Uranium Mill July 13, 2022, Request to Return Certain Groundwater Monitoring Parameters to Baseline Monitoring Frequency.
Utah Groundwater Discharge Permit No. UGW370004 Dear Ms. Weinel:
The Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control (DWMRC) has completed review of the
Energy Fuels Resources (USA) Inc. (EFRI), July 13, 2022, State of Utah Ground Water Discharge
Permit No. UGW370004 White Mesa Uranium Mill – Removal of Certain Groundwater Monitoring Parameters from Accelerated Monitoring Status.
Per Review, EFRI requests that certain monitoring well parameters be returned to baseline monitoring as
listed on the table below:
Monitoring Well Parameter Number of Consecutive Sample Results Below the GWCL
Baseline Monitoring Frequency
MW-11 Total Dissolved Solids 9 Quarterly
MW-26 Total Dissolved Solids 9 Quarterly
MW-30 Total Dissolved Solids 9 Quarterly It was noted in the review of groundwater monitoring data, including laboratory data sheets included with the EFRI Request, that total dissolved solids sample results for monitoring wells MW-11, MW-26 and MW-30 have been below the Permitted Ground Water Compliance Limits (GWCLs) for eight or
more consecutive accelerated sampling events. (Over)
In accordance with past DWMRC protocols, accelerated monitoring may be discontinued if at least eight consecutive samples show concentrations below the GWCL, therefore, the request to return to baseline monitoring for the wells/parameters on the table above is hereby approved.
If you have any questions, please call Tom Rushing at (801) 536-0080. Sincerely,
Phil Goble, Uranium Mills and Radioactive Materials Section Manager Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control
