Dear Ms. Weinel: In a letter dated May 18, 2021, Energy Fuels Resources (USA) Inc. (EFRI) informed the Division of
Waste Management and Radiation Control (Division) of their plan to receive and process 10 drums of
uranium loaded ion exchange resins (URL) from a community water treatment system located in Gerlach, Nevada as equivalent feed. To evaluate whether the Gerlach, Nevada URL could be considered an equivalent feed, the Division used the April 16, 2012, NRC REGULATORY ISSUE (RIS) SUMMARY 2012-06 NRC POLICY
REGARDING SUBMITTAL OF AMENDMENTS FOR 19 PROCESSING OF EQUIVALENT FEED AT LICENSED URANIUM RECOVERY FACILITIES guidance document. Please provide the following information:
1. Is the shipment of 10 drums a one-time event or will it be continuous? 2. Provide a letter from Gerlach, Nevada water treatment facility on appropriate letterhead requesting to ship the drums of URL to the White Mesa Mill. 3. Provide or cite a previous submission to the Division a description of how resins are processed at the White Mesa Uranium Mill.
4. Approximately how much yellowcake in pounds will be produced from the 10 drums? 5. Please provide the total amount of yellowcake produced at the White Mesa Uranium Mill for each of the last 10 years.
