RE: January 4, 2020, White Mesa Mill 2019 Annual Seep and Springs Sampling Report - Closeout Letter
Ground Water Quality Discharge Permit Number UGW370004
Dear Ms. Weinel:
The Utah Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control (“Division”) has completed the review of the
2019 Annual Seep and Springs Sampling Report dated January 4, 2020 (“Report”).
The review was based on compliance with the following:
1. White Mesa Uranium Mill Ground Water Quality Assurance Plan (“QAP”). Revision 7.2, datedJune 6, 2012.2. Groundwater Discharge Permit No. UGW370004 (“Permit”). Permit version that was signed onMarch 19, 2019.
3. Sampling Plan for Seeps and Springs In the Vicinity of the White Mesa Uranium Mill. Revision
2. July 8, 2016 (“Plan”).
The Review found that the uranium concentration at Entrance Spring of 70.1 µg/L exceeding the GWQS (30 µg/L). Therefore, the DWMRC will collect a split sample of this spring with EFR during the 2020 annual seeps and springs monitoring event. Should the 2020 sampling data show that uranium
concentrations continues to be above GWQS the DWMRC Director may require an increase in sampling frequency or other actions to determine possible sources that may have an impact on Entrance Spring.
The Division review concluded that the Report appeared to be in compliance with the Permit, QAP, and Plan. This letter constitutes a closeout of the 2019 Annual Seep and Springs Sampling Report.
