Dear Ms. Weinel: On September 14, 2020, an inspection of the embankments retaining Impoundments 4A and 4B at the White Mesa Uranium Mill was conducted by Russ Topham, a representative of the Division of Waste
Management and Radiation Control.
Rainfall the week before the inspection resulted in minor rutting of the embankment crests and minor rill erosion on the downstream face of the embankments. Neither had progressed to a level of concern. Prior to commencement of the inspection, a worker was engaged in repairing the rill erosion, and had completed most of the repairs on Impoundment 4A. Mention is made here to document the initiative
your staff has taken to prevent storm-related damage from progressing to a level of concern. Results of the inspection were discussed with Logan Shumway and Steve Snyder at the conclusion of the inspection. Based on the findings documented during the inspection, the items reviewed were found
to be in compliance with the Utah Radiation Control Rules and requirements for this license.
If you have any questions, please call Russ Topham at (801) 536-4256. Sincerely,
Phil Goble, Uranium Mills and Radioactive Materials Manager Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control
