Observations from the inspection were discussed at the closeout meeting with White Mesa Uranium Mill staff. The inspection was an examination of the activities conducted at your facility as they relate to compliance with the Utah Radiation Control Rules, the license conditions of the RML No. UTI900479 and federal regulations. The inspection consisted of an examination of representative records, interviews of personnel and observations by the inspector. Enclosed is the inspection report for your records. The inspectors also discussed an incident involving a roll-offcontainer that was released from the Mill and an upcoming site tour for an NRC training course. The Mill was not in operation during the inspection except for the alternate feed circuit. The Mill saffreminded the inspector of the safety requircments for the Mill. Insnection Summan The inspection consisted of:o Observing radiological postings around the Mill;o Observing Mill personnel perform exit surveys: r Reviewing documentation of:o Weekly Alpha surveys;o Monthly Beta-Gamma surveys;o Daily Efficiency meter checks; ando Taking dose rate measurements and large area swipes around the Mill. Radiological Postings: Observations: During the Mill Tour the inspector observed the following posted areas: The lnspector also observed that the postings were placed in visible areas and they were legible. However, the inspector did observe that many of the postings were starting to fade. Deficiencies: None Item 2. Exit Suneys: The Inspector observed four employees survey themselves out of the resfficted area and checked the alpha meters used. Observations: While observing the employees suwey themselves out of the area the Inspector observed that they surveyed themselves too fast. The lnspector also checked the settings of the survey instruments and found that they were set properly. The inspector also reviewed the Daily Effrciency check form and found not deficiencies. Some of the postings were starting to fade;2. The Millemployees wene surveying themselves to fast; and3. The inspector measured 200 dpm/|00 cm2 offa table in the control room. The Inspector noted that it was not violation because it was found in an area not used for eating but reminded the RSO and Mill Manager that it is a good ALARA practice to keep the contamination levels down inside the Mill.
