SUBJECT: Review of the Roberts Pond Excavation Report of the Decommissioning of
Roberts Pond at the White Mesa Mill
Under a cover letter dated April 6, 2015, Energy Fuels Resources (USA) Inc. EFRI, submitted to
the Utah Division of Radiation Control (DRC) the Roberts Pond Excavation Report. The Roberts
Pond Excavation Report documents the decommissioning activities with supporting analytical
results of Roberts Pond at the White Mesa Mill.
DRC Staff was assigned to review the Roberts Pond Excavation Report on May 27, 2015. After
reviewing the report the DRC staff acknowledges that EFRI has:
• Removed the structure of Roberts Pond;
• Investigated contamination associated with Roberts Pond; and
• Remediated identified contaminated areas to appropriate clean-up standards of 18uR/hr
gamma, 14 mg/Kg Uranium and 5 pCi/g of Radium-226.
DRC Staff has concluded that the structure of Roberts Pond can be removed from the White Mesa
Mill's surety. However, the area where Roberts pond was located is still within the restricted area
of the White Mesa Mill and it is adjacent to active Uranium Milling activities. Therefore, DRC
Staff recommends that money is maintained in the surety for this area to be included in the final
closure survey of the Mill at the time of the Mill's decommissioning.
