Conditional Approval
On Apnl 12, 2012 the Utah Division of Radiation Control (DRC) received through email a single-
sheet plan for an improvement to the existing NDP recirculation pump at the DUSA White Mesa
Uranium Mill The plan sheet was submitted as an attachment to an Apnl 12, 2012 DUSA
response to the Notice of Violation and Compliance Order (Order), Docket No UGW 12-01, dated
March 7, 2012 The design drawing was submitted in response to Violation No 5, where DUSA
failed to control contact wash water at the New Decontamination Pad near the scale house This
violation was observed dunng an October 18, 2011 DRC inspection where DRC Staff observed
that the New Decontamination Pad pump back system was leaking to the ground
The proposed new design includes construction of a catchment to prevent release of contact water
to the soil DRC also understands that DUSA intends to complete construction of the sump within
15 calendar days of approval of the construction plan
After DRC review of the new design drawing for the existing NDP recirculation pump, the
Executive Secretary has determined that the design drawing can be approved on the following
conditions ,

2 Submit As-Built drawings within 30 calendar days after completion of construction The
As-Built drawings must include specifications of the matenal used dunng construction
