BACKGROUND In accordance with the provisions of Utah Admin. Code R317-6-5, Friends of Great Salt Lake hasrequested to submit a petition to the Utah Water Quality Board (“Board”) to classify the groundwater of the shallow, unconfined aquifer in the East Shore Area of the Great Salt Lake, DavisCounty, Utah as Class 1C, Ecologically Important Ground Water.Documentation supporting the petition may be examined, or copiesobtainedbycontactingBenj MorrisattheDivisionofWaterQuality,195North1950West, Salt Lake City, UT 84114, bamorris@utah.gov, or (385) 524-6692. PUBLICCOMMENTS PubliccommentsareinvitedanytimepriortothedeadlineofthecloseofbusinessonFriday, July 14, 2024.Written public comments can be submitted to: Benj Morris, Groundwater Protection Section, Utah Division of Water Quality, PO Box 144870, Salt Lake City, Utah 84114-4870 or electronically by email at: bamorris@utah.govor at https://deq.utah.gov/water-quality/water-quality-electronic-submissions. As part of the public comment period, a public hearing will be held on May 7, 2024, at 6:30 pm with an informational session from 6pm to 6:30 pm. Afterconsideringpubliccomment,theDivisionofWaterQualitymayreissue,revise,orabandon the classification. The classification is available for public review under “Public Participation” at https://deq.utah.gov/public-notices-archive/water-quality-public-notices.
