Dear Mr. Brown:
The Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control has reviewed the Final Dry/Obstructed Well Abandonment Report (Report) for the Tooele Army Depot North Area (TEADN), dated March
28, 2024. The Report documents well abandonment activities that were conducted for 25 dry or obstructed monitoring wells at TEADN Solid Waste Management Unit (SWMU) 58.
Monitoring wells at SWMU 58 were abandoned between November 8, 2023, and January 12, 2024, in accordance with the approved Dry/Obstructed Well Abandonment Work Plan. The wells were abandoned
by pressure grouting the well using Portland cement, removing the above ground completions, and cutting the well casing off at least one foot below ground surface. At locations with
a nested pair of wells where only one well was abandoned, the surface completion was left in place. Following removal of the surface completion, the area was regraded to match surrounding
conditions using native soil. Solid waste generated during well abandonment was disposed of in the municipal waste stream.
Following abandonment activities, the drilling contractor that performed the abandonments filed an abandonment log with the State Engineer at the Utah Division of Water Rights for each
abandoned well. The Report is hereby approved.
