HomeMy WebLinkAboutDSHW-2024-005718April 9, 2024 John Amato, Project Manager Refining Business Unit Chevron Environmental Management Company 324 West El Segundo Blvd. (MO-142) El Segundo, CA 90245 RE: Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessments Chevron Salt Lake Refinery Post-Closure Permit UTD092029768 Dear Mr. Amato: The Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control (the Division) has noticed that human health risk assessment and ecological risk assessment associated with chemicals of concerns impacting the refinery the soil and groundwater from spills at the refinery. The Division requests that site-wide human health and ecological assessments be conducted upon the facility closure in accordance with Utah Administrative Code R315-101. The ecological risk assessment will need to evaluate weight exposures across all spills, solid waste management units, and areas of contamination at the refinery. The requirement for human health and ecological risk assessments needs to be incorporated into the Post-Closure Permit in the next permit modification or the permit renewal in 2027, whichever comes the first.
