Box 144880 Salt Lake City, UT 84114-4880 Subject: Confirmation of Waste Acceptance Dear Mr. Hansen: The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has an internal requirement to receive a letter from a regulatory authority that specific waste is acceptable at the receiving facility. The EnergySolutions Clive facility is preparing to receive waste from the USACE Niagara Falls Storage Site (NFSS). EnergySolutions requests concurrence from the Director that the waste described below meets license requirements and is acceptable for disposal at the Clive facility. The NFSS has approximately 73 55-gallon drums of low-level radioactive waste. Radiological analysis of the waste detected the following isotopes: Isotope Average Concentration (pCi/g) Isotope Average Concentration (pCi/g) Cs-137 2.57E-02 Th-230 8.68E-01 Pu-238 9.33E-03 Th-232 7.88E-01 Ra-226 8.50E-01 U-234 2.38E+00 Ra-228 6.64E-01 U-235 1.32E-01 Sr-90 5.54E-02 U-238 2.32E+00 Th-228 75.5E-01 The generator has confirmed the waste is not RCRA hazardous; it is not a listed waste, and analytical data has confirmed the waste is not characteristically hazardous. The waste is destined for direct disposal in the Class A Embankment at Clive. Please provide concurrence that the Clive facility can accept this waste.
