RE:EnergySolutions’ Request for Compliance Status Change for Monitoring Wells GW-23;
Ground Water Quality Discharge Permit Number UGW 450005:
DWMRC Approval
Dear Mr.:
The Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control (Division) has completed its review of your letter dated June 24, 2025 (CD-2025-132), regarding EnergySolutions’ request to return
monitoring well GW-23, which is in a non-compliance status for Total Uranium, to a baseline compliance frequency of annual sampling. EnergySolutionsprovided eight quarterly Total Uraniumsample
results from monitoring well GW-23, subsequent to the original out of compliance sample in May of 2023, that did not exceed the Clive Site Groundwater Protection Level for Total Uranium.
The Division’s evaluation of the subsequent Total Uranium concentrationresults from monitoring well GW-23 does not show an increasing trend.The exceedance appears to be an isolated Total
Uranium exceedance andbased on the Division’s review of the June 24, 2025 request, the Director is granting the request to return monitoring well GW-23 to baseline frequency monitoring
for Total Uranium.
If you have any questions, please call Charles Bishop at (385) 622-2211.
Sincerely,
Doug Hansen, Director
Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control
