OPERATING STATUS: Temporarily down. This source has not operated since March
2020. The source hopes to resume operations once aluminum
prices increase.

PROCESS DESCRIPTION: When in use, the source operates a MAX4000-SP secondary
aluminum sweat furnace. It is a 5 MMBtu/hr furnace fueled
solely by natural gas and consisting of a primary chamber,
holding chamber, and afterburner. The primary chamber has a 3
MMBtu/hr burner, and the holding chamber and afterburner each
have a 1 MMBtu/hr burner.

Scrap aluminum from automobiles is charged into the furnace
and the iron is separated out by using a low temperature to melt
the aluminum while the iron remains in a solid form.

APPLICABLE REGULATIONS: Approval Order (AO) DAQE-AN157400001-17, dated
November 28, 2017
SOURCE EVALUATION: No source evaluation was made. The site was visited and the
owner confirmed the site has not operated since March 2020,
with no immediate plans to resume operations. The sweat
furnace is still on site.

COMPLIANCE STATUS &
RECOMMENDATIONS: In regards to Approval Order (AO) DAQE-AN157400001-17,
dated November 28, 2017: In compliance with no emissions and
no change in equipment. No recovery has been completed since
March 2020.

HPV STATUS: Not Applicable.

RECOMMENDATION FOR
NEXT INSPECTION: Inspect at minimal frequency until operations resume. Metal
Coatings (Site ID 12152) is located at the same address
and operated by the same owner as AlTech. It is
recommended to inspect both sources in the same inspection.
