SITE NAME: Airport West / North Temple Landfill

SITE LOCATION: Salt Lake City

DATE OF SITE VISIT: 14, 18, 21, 28 July 2025

PURPOSE OF SITE VISIT: DERR (David Bird) oversight of field activities at the Airport West VCP site.

FIELD OBSERVATIONS: On 14, 21, and 28 July, at ~2 pm, the DERR met with ET Design, Wasatch
Environmental and Ninigret at the on-site construction trailer for the Weekly Remediation Construction
Meetings. We discussed the weekly progress on excavation of various landfill cells and the 25 foot wide
buffer trench around the perimeter of the future Repository. Various refinements to the process of
controlling fugitive dust were also discussed, including the application of magnesium chloride to the
haul roads on July 26th to provide a surface less prone to exhibiting dust when driven on. A Sampling
and Analysis plan for soil confirmation samples in each excavated cell was proposed, reviewed by the
DERR, and ultimately accepted by the DERR on 28 July. A proposal to use leachate from the individual
landfill cells for dust control in the cells and Repository was received by the DERR on 11 July. The DERR
is coordinating the review of this proposal with the DWQ and SLVHD. Pursuant to the review of this
proposal, a DWQ representative visited the site with the DERR on 18 July to observe the layout of the
site, the excavation process and discuss the proposed process for the use of leachate. Discussions
regarding this proposal are on-going.
