Re: Groundwater Quality Discharge Permit Number UGW450005 (GWQDP) – BAT
Concern, SRS DU Storage Building
Dear Mr. Hansen:
On January 26, 2024 the BAT inspector discovered the presence of water in the interior
of the SRS Depleted Uranium (DU) Storage Building. Water did not contact any waste
containers. The Clive Facility received 0.16 inches of measurable precipitation from the
evening of January 25th, 2024.
EnergySolutions notified the Director of Waste Management and Radiation Control of
the concern via e-mail on January 30, 2024. This letter provides the required 7-day
written notification. The email notification was made beyond the 24-hour notification
requirement due to a miscommunication within the BAT inspection group.
The BAT inspector removed the water on the same day as the inspection by wiping the
water from the protective plastic. A review of the BAT inspection for the DU building
and the reporting requirements will be conducted with the BAT inspectors to ensure
permit compliance.
Please contact me at (385)418-3044 with any questions regarding this notification.
Sincerely,
Jon Anderson
Environmental Compliance Manager
