On June 24th, Bear Lake State Park collected water samples from the North Eden water distribution system which came back as E. coli positive. Follow up/repeat samples were taken June 26th andcame back total coliform positive andE. coli absent. After we were notified, we reached out to the state and are putting this boil order in place until we can find and fix the problem that has occurred. We take your health and the quality of our drinking water very seriously and we need to inform each of you of the situation. Since we do not collect total coliform samples every day, we wanted to let you be aware of the risk. Below is more information about health impacts of E. colifound in drinking water. Please contact us if you have additional questions. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience. What is being done? We are chlorinating and flushing the water system. We are increasing sampling at our sources to determine the source of the contamination. We are working with state officials to implement corrective actions to ensure water supplies are protected against contamination. We will inform you when tests show no coliform and/or E. coliand you no longer need to boil your water. Test results can take 1-2 days for results and longer on the weekends. What should the consumer do?  DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. E. coli are bacteria whose presence indicates that the water may be contaminated with human or animal wastes. Microbes in these wastes can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly and people with severely compromised immune systems. The symptoms above are not caused only by organisms in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice. People at increased risk should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. For more information, please contact Richard Droesbeke or Jeff Fry at 435-946-3343 orricharddroesbeke@utah.gov or jefferyfry@utah.gov . General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1(800) 426-4791 Division website: drinkingwater.utah.gov.
