Hello Jeff, sorry for the late reply. The exceedance at outfall 003 (Pond 3)occurred because of the mine decanting water residing in the pond with the intentions of pumping additional
stormwater/ground water that had ponded in the adjacent/active Borrow Area. We wanted to make enough room for the additional water without a discharge while we were pumping (we were
using a large 6” pump).
The decant on pond 3 was opened on April 1st at 8:30 am @ approximately 50 gpm and allowed to flow until April 7th at 8:00 am. Approximately 429,750 gallons of water was discharged.
The TDS of the water was 1960 mg/L exceeding the permit limit of 1900 mg/L. The area of ground water seepage has now been backfilled. We do not anticipate additional discharges/exceedances
in the near future, but as with the past, they are also highly dependent upon the storms we receive.

Hello Kirk,
How are you these days? It's been a while since we chatted. I noticed Alton had a slight permit limit exceedance this spring at Outfall 003. Was it likely from runoff and did I miss
a call or email reporting the exceedance? Just checking in and as a friendly reminder to report all exceedances via phone call within 24-hrs of knowing about it and then a follow up
written email to DWQ within 5-days as per the permit requirements.
Please provide any info you can and if you anticipate any more exceedances. Thanks and feel free to reach out anytime with questions.
Best regards...Jeff
