Shelley Executive Director DIVISION OF DRINKING WATER Nathan Lunstad Interim Director April 5, 2024 Mike Meek Deseret Land and Livestock BOX 250 Woodruff, UT 84086 Subject: Notice of Increased Monitoring for Deseret Land and Livestock, UTAH17016 Mike Meek: According to the Division of Drinking Water’s (the Division) records, the Deseret Land and Livestock Well #3 (listed as WS004 in the Divisions database) detected Gross Alpha Particle Activity and Combined Radium at levels of 26 pCi/L and 6 pCi/L respectively on September 20, 2023. The Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for Gross Alpha Particle Activity is 15 pCi/L and the MCL for Combined Radium in 5 pCi/L. As a result of this, this source is now subject to increased monitoring in accordance with R309-205-7(b)(iv). Compliance with the Gross Alpha Particle Activity and Combined Radium MCLs will be determined by the Running Annual Average (RAA) of the samples collected at the Deseret Land and Livestock Well #3 (WS004). If at any point the RAA for Gross Alpha Particle Activity or Combined Radium is greater than their respective MCLs, a MCL violation will be issued, and public notice will be required. The Deseret Land and Livestock Well #3 (WS004) is now required to be sampled each calendar quarter that the facility is running for Radium 226, Radium-228, Gross Alpha Particle Activity, and Combined Uranium. Presented below are the complete monitoring requirements for this facility.
