INCIDENT SUMMARY
Approximately 300 gallons of diesel has been released from an onsite fuel island and a tank associated with a generator engine. The fuel island and the
generator engine are owned by a third party contractor that is working in the aggregate pit. The third party contractor is TLC Crushing and the aggregate
pit is owned by Stake Parson.
There was a failure of the onsite fuel island in July/August of 2024 and there was a continuous leak of the fuel tank associated with the generator engine.
Based on aerial photos, Staker Parson believes that contamination resulted in 1,500 feet square of contaminated material within the pit.
TLC Crushing excavated approximately 300 to 500 tons of contaminated soil to a depth of 12 feet. Staker Parsons collected samples on the wall and the
floor of the excavation to confirm removal of the diesel fuel. These samples showed that DRO was less than the detection limit. However, there is still a
faint diesel odor in the excavation.
The groundwater table was not reached during this excavation. However, the Provo River is approximately 0.3 miles from the aggregate pit. The
elevation of the release was at 6550 ft above ground surface and the stream bed elevation is 6440 ft above ground surface.
The contaminated material has been transported offsite. The caller did not know where the material was taken but indicated that it was likely a landfill or
landfarm.
