SYSTEM DESIGNATION PLAN
WATER SYSTEM 27051
WTP001, WTP003, WTP004
This document outlines the required actions to reestablish Zion Canyon WS 27051(WTP001, WTP003 and WTP004) to groundwater designation.
Currently WS27051-WTP001 (Birch Creek) utilizes the following filtration components:
1. Existing Birch System Description: Floor mounted housing with three replaceable elements for
removing suspended particles from water. The system consists of two parallel trains of
two filter housings in series: with prefilter cartridges in the initial housing and
compliance filters in the second housing.
a. Harmsco, Inc. Municipal-3 model
1) Material: 304 Stainless steel.
2) Pressure Rating: 150 psig.
3) Seals: EPDM.
4) Diameter: 20 inches.
5) Height or Length: 63 inches.
6) Inlet and Outlet Size: 3 NPS.
7) Drain Size: 1-1/2 NPS.
b. Pre-Filter Elements:
1) Number Required: Three.
2) Harmsco HC/170-1
3) Media: Pleated polyester.
4) Maximum loading: 0.5 gpm / ft2of filter area. 5) DWG 116, PG 6 designator-Filter #3, Filter #4
c. Compliance Filter Elements
1) Number Required: Three.
2) Harmsco HC/170-LT2
3) Media: borosilicate glass.
4) Maximum loading: 0.75 gpm / ft2of filter area.5) DWG 116, PG. 6 designator-Filter #1, Filter #2
To meet the new ground water designation, all six (6) existing compliance filter media (HC/170-LT2) will be replaced with Harmsco media HC/170-1. See attached drawing.
All other existing components in WTP001 will remain the same.
Currently WS27051-WTP003 (Lower Grotto) and WTP004 (Upper Grotto) utilize the following filtration components:
1. Existing Upper and Lower Grotto System Description: Floor-mounted housing with a single
replaceable element for removing suspended particles from water. Each system consists
of two parallel trains of two filter housings in series; with prefilter cartridges in the initial
housing and compliance filters in the second housing.
Filter Design:
1) Continuous Flow: 30 gpm.
2) Peak Flow: 60 gpm.
3) Combined Filtration Efficiency: Shall meet the Challenge Test Method
defined in the Long Term Two Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule
Toolbox Guidance Manual.
4) Pressure Drop: Not to exceed 2 psig at filter peak design flow rate when
clean.
b. Harmsco, Inc. Municipal-1 model:
1) Material: 304 Stainless steel.
2) Pressure Rating: 150 psig.
3) Seals: EPDM.
4) Diameter: 11 inches.
5) Height or Length: 48 inches.
6) Inlet and Outlet Size: 2 NPS.
7) Drain Size: 3/4 NPS.
c. Pre-Filter Elements:
1) Number Required: One.
2) Harmsco HC/170-1
3) Media: Pleated polyester.
4) Maximum loading: 0.5 gpm / ft2
of filter area.
5) DWG 116, PG 13 designator-LG Filter #3, LG Filter #4 and UG Filter #3, UG Filter #4
d. Compliance Filter Elements
1) Number Required: One.

2) Harmsco HC/170-LT2
3) Media: borosilicate glass.
