HomeMy WebLinkAboutDDW-2025-004050Definitions AKA = also known as AL = Action Level (the concentration of a contaminant which, if exceeded, triggers treatment or other requirements that a water system must follow) CaCO3 = Calcium Carbonate cm = centimeter cm-1 = inverse centimeter (unit of measurement for UV254) HAA5 = Haloacetic Acids (these are the five regulated HAAs: trichloroacetic acid, dibromoacetic acid, monochloroacetic acid, monobromoacetic acid, and dichloroacetic acid) HAA6 = Haloacetic Acids (these include the five regulated HAAs listed above under HAA5 plus bromochloroacetic acid which currently is not regulated) LCWTP = Little Cottonwood Water Treatment Plant MCL = Maximum Contaminant Level (the highest level of a contaminant that is allowed in drinking water. MCLs are set as close to MCLGs as feasible using the best available technology) MCLG = Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (the level of a contaminant in drinking water below which there is no known or expected risk to health) MFL = Million Fibers per Liter mL =milliliters MRL = Method Reporting Limit (the smallest concentration or amount of an analyte that can be quantitatively determined with acceptable precision and accuracy under stated analytical conditions) MTBE = Methyl T-Butyl Ether MWDSLS = Metropolitan Water District of Salt Lake & Sandy N/A = Not Applicable NTU = Nephelometric Turbidity Units (turbidity can interfere with disinfection and provide a medium for microbial growth. It may indicate the presence of disease causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can cause symptoms, such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches) PCBs = Polychlorinated Biphenyls pCi/L = picocuries per liter (unit of measure for radioactivity) POE = Point of Entry POMWTP = Point of the Mountain Water Treatment Plant ppb = parts per billion or micrograms per liter (µg/L) ppm = parts per million or milligrams per liter (mg/L) SLA = Salt Lake Aqueduct SMCL = Secondary Maximum Contaminant Level (These parameters are used to indicate levels at which the aesthetic quality of the water would be negatively impacted. Figures above this level would not result in a violation but may result in customer complaints). SOCs= Synthetic Organic Compounds THMs = Trihalomethanes TT = Treatment Technique (a required process intended to reduce the level of a contaminant in drinking water) µS/cm = microSiemens per centimeter (unit of measurement for conductivity, which is the reciprocal of the unit of resistance, the ohm) UV = Ultraviolet VOCs = Volatile Organic Compounds For calculations purpose, zeros were used for any result below MRL values.
