SUBJECT:LUST NFA - Closure Review Memo
UDOT Station #4454, located at 239 South Highway 94, Thompson Springs, Utah
Facility Identification No. 5000212, Release Site OJP
Underground storage tanks, one diesel and one gasoline, used at a Utah State Fuel Network location were removed on October 10th, 2023. The tanks were emptied of 185 gallons of fuel and
sludge, inerted with dry ice, and sent to Grand County Landfill for disposal. The fuel and sludge were processed in Salt Lake City at Sump and Trap Cleaning. The facility is located
in the outskirts of Thompson Springs all by itself. Initial groundwater grab samples taken from the tank pit yielded levels of contamination over Initial Screening Levels for Benzene,
TPH-GRO, and TPH-DRO. Since the closest structure or property line is over 30 feet away and there are no utilities close by, this site is being recommended for closure. With time the
contamination that has been left will continue to degrade. There is a small pond that the station uses to wash vehicles but it is located up hill and around 200’ from the area of contamination. In
the future, if other evidence indicates a threat to human health or the environment, additional corrective action may be required.
