RE: Replacement-in-Kind Determination for Vibratory Screener
Project Number: N107260023
The Utah Division of Air Quality (UDAQ) received your notification, dated December 02, 2024,
concerning Replacement-in-Kind (RIK) of a SMICO Vibratory Screener at Morton Salt, Inc.'s Grantsville
facility. The Utah Division of Air Quality has determined that the replacement of the vibratory screener
satisfies the eligible criteria outlined in R307-401-11.
Morton Salt, Inc. shall notify the director in writing when the installation of the exchanged unit has been
completed and is operational. An initial compliance test is required within 180 days of installation. A
notification shall be submitted at least 30 days prior to conducting any testing. To ensure proper credit
when notifying the director, send your correspondence to the Director, attn: NSR section.
The replacement Vibratory Screener shall operate under the conditions listed in Approval Order
DAQE-AN107260022-18.
The charge for the review done in making this change is a flat fee plus a filing fee as authorized by the
Utah Legislature. You will receive an invoice for these charges shortly. If you have any questions, please

To whom it may concern,
This is a notification of a change in equipment at the Morton Salt Grantsville facility.
This notification is in response to a notice the site received, #DAQC-929-24 based on approval order #DAQE-
AN107260020-17.
Morton Salt installed a screener in May of 2023 to replace a screener that did not operate to our needs. This
replacement was assessed as part our Management of Change process and was considered a “replacement-in-
kind”. Therefore, a new approval order was not requested at the time. The site was issued a Compliance Notice
with a corrective action to report the change to DAQ Minor Source NSR section. Please see the change below.
Here are the following specifications laid out for each piece of equipment:
SMICO Symons Vibratory Screener, Model 6016-2D-EHZ. Removed
- Body: A fabricated 304 stainless steel plate body at a positive operation angle; top cover with round
inlet; blank feed end plate; bottom pan with round outlet; discharge end plate with spout(s). Glass Bead
finish. Estimated 40TPH.
- Gaskets & Screen Support Cushions: Top cover, bottom pan and end plate seals are black closed cell
neoprene; rubber screen support cushions.
- Decks: Three cascading crowned decks. Square mesh or space cloth wire screens; internal deflectors;
external tension bolts are included.
- Connectors: (RCN) rubber coated nylon flexible connector sleeves with band clamps on inlets/outlets
are included.
- Drive: Bottom mounted SMICO Dual Shaft inertially coupled linear action drive featuring QD sheaves,
"A" belts, and enclosed guards.
- Bearings: SMICO 85mm spherical, grease lubricated bearings.
- Motor: Two 15 HP, TEFC, 1750 RPM, 230-460/3/60 motors, less controls
- Sub-Base Frame: Enamel painted wide flange carbon steel with LORD MOUNTS vibration isolators.
Screen Decks:
1. SMICO screen 20 mesh TBC 316 stainless steel w/ mounting hooks
2. SMICO screen 30 mesh TBC 316 stainless steel w/ mounting hooks
3. SMICO screen steel w/ mounting hooks
Rotex APEX A7D110-2S Screener
- Body: The APEX Model A7D110-2S is a totally enclosed gyratory/reciprocating screener of all metal
construction operating with a 3-1/2″ positive displacement stroke at 203 RPM. Estimated 25 TPH. Feed
Distribution expectation: 44.4% + 30 U.S. Sieve.
- Screen Frame and Assembly: 316 Stainless Steel construction. 12- 30˝ x 42˝ nominal pretensioned
screen panels per level of screening, each weighing less than 8lbs. Wire mesh cleaning ball support
(3/4" c.o., .105" diameter). 1/4" UHMW abrasion lining applied to Fines Pan.
- Motor: 10 HP, 1200 RPM, 3 Phase, 60 Hz, 480 V, IEEE 841, TEFC Mill-Chem motor. (400752-P).

We believe the emit changes between the two screeners is most likely lower, if not the same. The new piece of equipment, Rotex 7 has a throughput that is 15
TPH less than the old SMICO, which we would equivalate to less total dust emissions.

Rachel,
Would you be able to provide potential to emit changes between the equipment (SMICO and Rotex) to verify the difference between the process equipment is
the same or lower? This is so I can verify the criteria of R307-401-11-(1) (a) and (c) is met.
