SITE NAME: Airport West / North Temple Landfill
SITE LOCATION: Salt Lake City
DATE OF SITE VISIT: 15 April 2025
PURPOSE OF SITE VISIT: DERR (David Bird) oversight of field activities at the Airport West VCP site.
FIELD OBSERVATIONS: At ~ 3:30 pm, the DERR & DAQ (Mike Scott) met UIPA’s contractor, Ninigret
(Gary McEntee & Eric Rice) ET Technologies, and UIPA (Mona Smith & Mark Nord) at the site to discuss
how preparations for beginning remediation of Phase I at the site is coming along. Construction of
leachate processing ponds and processing of concrete into roadbase material is progressing. Needed
preparations, including a DERR accepted SAP for the upcoming water monitoring event was also
discussed. The pile of processed concrete material on site has grown, with more to be processed.
Monday morning of each week was proposed for the weekly meetings once construction starts. The
prepared beds of the three leachate ponds were examined. The WAIV system for evaporation of
leachate is expected to be operational by the end of May 2025. The pre-fabricated liners for the main
pond was in place and construction of the framework for the WAIV unit was under way.
Ninigret and the DERR discussed the schedule for the excavation of material from the waste cells of the
landfill. This is expected to commence near the middle of May 2025.
The DERR left the site at ~5:00 pm.

Yes
Looking southwest at the location (in the center of the structure) of the leachate pond where the WAIV
(evaporation) unit is to be installed. The liner is installed and the framework for the walkway around the
unit is under construction.
