Comments:Mark Crim, PM: Held an onsite meeting with Ian Wright, Environmental Manager at Compass
Minerals. Myself, Mr. Wright and 6-others, held a meeting in a conference room to discuss
Compass' plan of action and what they have done to date. To date they worked with Petroleum
Maintenance Co. to determine the location of the subgrade line leak associated with a Diesel
AST. The leaking line was taken off-line. I broadly discussed the DERR program. They are
aware of the need for a consultant and will probably work with Terracon. Next we inspected the
area of the release. I was shown the AST system, the leaking pipe area and a surface water
catch basin about 70 yards NW from the tank system. Specifically, the line leak was beneath the
middle dispenser for large truck fueling (1.5" hose and nozzle). It was determined that a faulty
elbow, about 2' below grade, and part of the incoming line to the dispenser was the release
point. The release was first noted in the catch basin as red diesel float. Booms and pads are
currently laid across the surface of the water. The catch basin is dirt, with no liner and on the
west side, exists a sump with screen. The sump top is about 5 feet above the current basin
water level. Compass will do a subsurface investigation and cleanup as needed.
