Introduction A. Location Sand Hollow Well 7 is located approximately 165 feet west and 165 feet south of the intersection of Dixie Springs Road and 4010 West in Hurricane, Utah more specifically described as being North 234 feet and East 2143 feet from the West Quarter Corner of Section 23, Township 42 South, Range 14 West, Salt Lake Base and Meridian as shown in Figure 1.2 in Appendix B. B. Existing Conditions Sand Hollow Well 7 was recently drilled as a new well and an 18” well screen and casing were installed this year. SRI #6 gravel silica sand gravel pack was installed between the well screen and boring wall. A stepped drawdown pump test was completed on the well with a maximum yield of 340 gpm and a drawdown of 561 feet (See Appendix A). Stabilized flow and constant rate pump tests were also performed on the well which verified a stabilized drawdown of about 290 feet at a constant rate of 290 gpm. It is proposed to design the pump for 90% maximum yield of the well, or 305 gpm, with a drawdown of 330 feet (see Appendix A). The pump will be equipped with a Variable Speed Drive (VFD) and typically the well will be pumped at 85% (290 gpm) of the maximum yield but will have the capability of pumping 305 gpm in an emergency. Pumping at 85% of the yield of the well will reduce the RPM of the pump which will reduce wear due to sand. The drawdown for the well at the 290 gpm design point was derived from the linear equation developed from the test pumping of the well as y = 1.91x – 264 where x is the flow in gpm. The drawdown would be 290 feet at a flow rate of 290 gpm. Additionally, the well pump for Well 7 is being designed to pump against the head of the Sand Hollow Ground Water Treatment Plant (SHGWTP) into the two-million-gallon tank (2 MG Tank) on the east side of the reservoir. This report will present both flow scenarios that are being considered and provide for the well pump design. C. Water Quality Water quality tests were performed on Well 7 by Chemtech-Ford Laboratories. Test results are found to meet the minimum drinking water standards and are included in this report in Appendix C. Page | 2 Part II. Sand Hollow Well 7 Pump Design A. Proposed Design It is proposed to pump Well 7 against the head of the SHGWTP and the 2 MG Tank at an elevation of 3,160’. The wellhead elevation for Well 7 is 3,008’, so the total static head is 152 feet. The design considers losses through the SHGWTP at delivery of 10 MGD. At buildout, the Sand Hollow Regional Pipeline (SHRP) will deliver 20 MGD to the Warner Valley Tank and will have an additional head loss of 16 feet. Well 7 is connected to the Sand Hollow Regional Pipeline through several sections of the well collection piping system. From the well, water flows through approximately 2,023’ of 8” diameter ductile iron pipe to the 20” DI well transmission line in the Sand Hollow Road right-of-way. The 20” diameter DI pipe runs for 930’ and then upsizes to a 30” DR11 HDPE pipe that runs for 2,700’ to the Sand Hollow Groundwater Treatment Plant(SHGWTP). After being treated it ultimately will tie into the 36” SHRP that has a high point in the HGL system at elevation 3100’. The length to the highpoint of the SHRP is approximately 11,800’ from the interconnection from the SHGWTP. The proposed well design points for Well 7 are 305 gpm at 525 total dynamic head (TDH) with 330 feet of drawdown and 290 gpm at 485 TDH with 290 feet of drawdown in the well, including head losses through the SHGWTP and transmission pipelines. Head loss calculations are shown in Appendix A. B. Well Pump Design The pump has been designed with the following criteria: Sand Hollow Well 7 – Design Point 1 – 306 gpm Flow Rate: ...................................................... 305 gpm Pump Station Elevation: .................................. 3008’ Sand Hollow Regional HGL Elevation: ............ 3160’ Total Static Head: ............................................ 152’ Water Surface at Drawdown (330’) ................ 2678’ Headloss Pipe and Treatment Plant ................ 66’ Total Dynamic Head: ....................................... 548’ Page | 3 Sand Hollow Well 7 – Design Point 2 – 290 gpm Flow Rate: ...................................................... 290 gpm Pump Station Elevation: .................................. 3008’ Sand Hollow Regional HGL Elevation: ............ 3160’ Total Static Head: ............................................ 152’ Water Surface at Drawdown (290’) ................ 2718’ Headloss Pipe and Treatment Plant ................ 64’ Total Dynamic Head: ....................................... 506’ Appendix A – Well Reports and Approvals, Calculations and Pumping Tests Well testing included a 20-hour Drawdown Test conducted on November 25 and 26, 2024, where the well production (yield) was measured at decreasing water levels (drawdown) in the well. Results of the test are shown in Figure 1. The well yield increased linearly from a drawdown of 135 feet to approximately 300 feet with a specific capacity of 0.53 gpm/ft of drawdown. At approximately 300 feet, the specific capacity began to decrease, indicating the strata at that level became less water bearing, or less porous. At approximately 400 feet, the specific capacity dropped to 0.11 gpm/ft of drawdown where very little water entered the well at this level. Water bearing strata are primarily above 300 feet. Figure 1. Well Testing Additional well tests on December 18 and 20, 2024, verified that the well can consistently produce about 300 gpm with a drawdown of approximately 300 feet. 620 South 400 East Suite 400 • St. George, UT 84770 Telephone (435) 986-2590 • Fax (435) 986-2595 • T.D.D. Well Sealing Description Description of the Well Sealing Process: The well was grouted using neat cement grout and pumped through a 2-inch tremie to the bottom of the borehole. The first truck had 10 cubic yard (CY) of grout and a second truck had to be ordered. The calculated neat line volume was 10.33 CY. In the time it took for the second truck to show up, the grout had set up in the hopper, the hose, and tremie. They had to disconnect everything and pull the tremie they could (it broke at about 50 feet while pulling it). We measured the level of the grout and found it was at about 35 feet. We decided rather than waiting to do it another day, we would use the second truck that was ordered and pour from the surface since we had a 4 inch annular space and neat cement was being used which would reduce the risk of bridging. About another 4 CY of neat cement grout was used and it came to the surface. Grout Material: Neat Cement Grout Volume (in cu. yds.): ~14 Cu Yards, based on volume in truck. The calculated required amount was about 10.33 CY. Zachary Renstrom April 18, 2024 Grout Density (in lbs/gal): Two loads of 10 CY each. The first was 15.3 lbs/gal and the second was 15.1 lbs/gal (only about 4 CY of the second truck was pumped) Method of Placement: Positive displacement grout pump and pour from surface.
