COX Governor DIEDRE HENDERSON Lieutenant Governor Department of Environmental Quality Tim Davis Executive Director DIVISION OF DRINKING WATER Nathan Lunstad, Ph.D., P.E. Director March 18, 2025 Jay Brems American Fork City 275 East 200 North American Fork, UT 84003 Subject: Notice of Decreased Monitoring for American Fork City; UTAH25008 Jay Brems: This letter serves as notification that quarterly monitoring of volatile organics is no longer required at the Alpine Country Club Well (identified as WS008) and the Golf Course Well (WS010). A volatile organics sample is now due annually from each of these sources. The next volatile organics sample from the Alpine Country Club Well (WS008) and the Golf Course Well (WS010) is due sometime between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2025. On August 23, 2022, each of these sources yielded a detection for xylenes, total. Although the results were below the maximum contaminant level (MCL), the results required increased monitoring. Two volatile organics samples were collected from each well in 2024 and the results show no detections for volatile organic compounds. Pursuant to R309-205-6(2), these sources qualify for reduced monitoring in which one volatile organics sample is needed annually. The updated monitoring requirements for the Lower Spring (WS002) are given below. An updated monitoring schedule can be viewed any time at waterlink.utah.gov under the water monitoring section. Please ensure that the chosen laboratory processes PFAS samples using one of these methods. Additionally, the Division has resources to assist water systems in completing the PFAS initial monitoring requirements. For more information on the resources the division can provide related to PFAS initial monitoring please visit ddwpfas.utah.gov. For PFAS related questions, please contact John Steffan at jtsteffan@utah.gov or (385) 499-3926. Thank you for your efforts in maintaining a clean drinking water system. Please contact David Kruse at (385)-566-7789 or dbkruse@utah.gov for questions regarding the source monitoring and reporting requirements for your water system.
