Director March 27, 2025 Jamie Pearce Hart Utah State University 6600 Old Main Hill Logan, UT 84322 Subject: Notice of Source Reactivation, Increased Monitoring Requirements for Utah State University, UTAH03088 Jamie Pearce Hart: According to the Division of Drinking Water’s (the Division) records, Utah State University recently reactivated the Natural Resources Building Well (identified as WS001) and the NRB Well Chlorinator (TP001). This reactivation changes the monitoring requirements for this system. The monitoring requirements for the Natural Resources Building Well (WS001) are given below. An updated monitoring schedule can be viewed any time at waterlink.utah.gov under the Water Monitoring section. Please contact David Kruse at (385)-566-7789 or dbkruse@utah.gov for questions regarding the source monitoring and reporting requirements for this water system. Please ensure that the chosen laboratory processes PFAS samples using one of these methods. Additionally, the Division has resources to assist water systems in completing the PFAS initial monitoring requirements. For more information on the resources the division can provide related to PFAS initial monitoring please visit ddwpfas.utah.gov. For PFAS related questions, please contact John Steffan at jtsteffan@utah.gov or (385) 499-3926. Disinfection Monitoring & Reporting Requirements The system must comply with the following disinfection monitoring and reporting requirements as a result of reactivating the NRB Well Chlorinator (TP001): 1) Chlorine Residual ‒ Point of Entry (POE) to Distribution System a) The POE sampling location is identified as EP001 in the Division’s database. The specific location will need to be provided to the Division. Maintain a minimum of 0.2 mg/L residual (measured as free chlorine) at the POE sampling location. [R309-215-16(3)(b)(iii)(A)(I) and (II)] b) The chlorine residual concentration measured at the POE sampling location shall not exceed the maximum residual disinfectant level (MRDL) of 4.0 mg/L (measured as free chlorine). [R309-200-5(3)(c)(iv)] c) Record and report the lowest daily chlorine residual concentration, measured as free chlorine, at the chlorinator POE sampling location a minimum of three times per week. [R309-215- 10(1)] Disinfection Report Submission To demonstrate ongoing compliance with secondary disinfection requirements, the water system must complete monthly operational reports for each active chlorinator using a template approved by the Division. The template can be found on the Division’s MRDL.utah.gov webpage. • Operational reports are submitted quarterly. The reports are due to the Division by the 10th day following the end of each reporting month or quarter (i.e., January 10th, April 10th, July 10th and October 10th for quarterly reports). The reports can be submitted on the Division’s online form along with the distribution system chlorine residuals. The form can be found on the Division’s MRDL.utah.gov webpage. Please contact Luke Treutel at (385) 258-6084 or ltreutel@utah.gov with any questions relating to disinfection monitoring and reporting. Thank you for your efforts to maintain a clean drinking water system.
