Updated information about the project was provided to the Division on March 24, 2025. This project has met the conditions for receiving plan approval. Our understanding of the project is that SLCPU intends to reactivate the Millcreek Well (WS041). The well was in “inactive” status because the Millcreek Well (WS041) needed repair for proper functioning. Salt Lake City needs to put the well in service as the demand of water will increase in coming summer months. The old 400 HP submersible pump will be replaced by a newly designed vertical turbine pump (Nickerson H14MC 6-Stage, 14.1 inch). The new pump is rated at 358 HP to deliver 2,500 gallons per minute (gpm) with 472 feet TDH and feeds water to the distribution system. SLCPU also proposes expanding this well house with the addition of a chlorine room so chlorination equipment can be installed in future. Chlorinator plans and specs will be submitted to the Division for approval when needed. In addition, this well house will also be converted from a medium voltage to a low voltage facility. We have completed our review of the plans and specifications; stamped and signed by Jordan DeMann, P.E., dated February 25, 2025,and find they basically comply with the applicable portions of Utah’s Administrative Rules for Public Drinking Water Systems in R309. On this basis, the plans for the Millcreek Well (WS041) Pump Conversion and Well Houseare hereby approved. This approval pertains to construction only. An Operating Permit must be obtained from the Director before the Millcreek Well (WS041) Pump Conversion and Well House expansion project may be put in service. A checklist outlining the items required for operating permit issuance is enclosed for your information.Approvals or permits from the local authority or the county may be necessary before beginning construction of this project. As the project proceeds, notice of any changes in the approved design, as well as any change affecting the quantity or quality of the delivered water, must be submitted to the Division. We may also conduct interim and final inspections of this project. Please notify us when actual construction begins so that these inspections can be scheduled. This approval must be renewed if construction has not begun or if substantial equipment has not been ordered within one year of the date of this letter. If you have any questions regarding this approval, please contact Nagendra Dev, P.E., of this office, at (801) 680-5296, or Michael Newberry, P.E., Engineering Manager, at (385) 515-1464.
