SITE NAME: Airport West / North Temple Landfill
SITE LOCATION: Salt Lake City
DATE OF SITE VISIT: 21 March 2025
PURPOSE OF SITE VISIT: DERR (David Bird) oversight of field activities at the Airport West VCP site.
FIELD OBSERVATIONS: At ~ 9:10 am, the DERR met UIPA’s contractor, Ninigret (Eric Rice) at the site to
discuss how the construction of leachate processing ponds and processing of concrete into roadbase
material is progressing. The pile of processed concrete material on site has grown. NT Development
indicated that the processed concrete piles now represent approximately 120,000 tons of roadbase, and
that no more ACM had been found through the inspection process. The prepared beds of the three
leachate ponds were examined. DERR and the subcontractor walked the bottom of the larger pond and
removed sharp rocks and remnants of steel wire, presumably from the processed on-site concrete that
is now roadbase material. Ninigret outlined the expected schedule for installing the pre-fabricated
liners for each pond, and the liner installation for the first pond is expected next week.
Ninigret and the DERR discussed the schedule for the excavation of material from the waste cells of the
landfill. This is expected to commence near the middle of May 2025.
The DERR left the site at ~10:00 am.
