Marcus Abel Mantua Town Water System 409 N Main Mantua, UT 84324
Subject: Notice of Decreased Monitoring for Mantua Town Water System; UTAH02018 Marcus Abel:
This letter serves as notification that quarterly monitoring for combined uranium, alpha particles,
radium-226 and radium-228 is no longer required at the (OLD) Well No 1 (identified as WS003). A radionuclide sample is now due once every nine years. The next radionuclide sample is due sometime between January 1, 2029, and December 31, 2037.
It is the Division of Drinking Waters (the Division) understanding that following a pump failure at
the (NEW) Well No 2 in August of 2023, the (OLD) Well No 1 (WS003) was reactivated to supply water to the distribution system. On December 17, 2019, a sample collected from the (OLD) Well No 1 (WS003) detected alpha particles above the maximum contaminant level (MCL) of 15pCi/L. For this reason, when the (OLD) Well No 1 (WS003) was reactivated, a
quarterly monitoring requirement was established.
All six of the radionuclide samples collected from the (OLD) Well No 1 (WS003) in 2023 and 2024 demonstrate levels of radionuclides below federal detection levels. Pursuant to R30-205-7(1)(c)(i), these results qualify for a reduced monitoring schedule in which one sample is due in
every nine-year compliance cycle. These changes are reflected in the enclosed monitoring
schedule and are available to view anytime online at waterlink.utah.gov under the water monitoring section. Thank you for your efforts in maintaining a safe drinking water system. Please contact David Kruse
at (385) 566-7789 or dbkruse@utah.gov with any questions regarding the chemical monitoring
requirements for this system.
