PO BOX 877
Castle Dale, UT 84513 Subject: Notice of Decreased Volatile Organics Monitoring for Ferron –
Castle Valley SSD; UTAH08004
Jacob Sharp: This letter serves as notification that volatile organic compound (VOC) monitoring is no longer
required the 25 E State Hancock House (SS005) sampling location.
It is the Division of Drinking Waters (the Division) understanding that following a gasoline leak in 2012, xylenes, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, dichloromethane and chlorobenzene were detected at varying amounts within the Ferron – Castle Valley SSD distribution system. In
response a VOC monitoring requirement was established to evaluate contaminant concentrations
in locations most impacted. The source of contamination has since been decommissioned and remediation involving soil/water line replacements have been completed. In 2024, no VOCs were detected through quarterly
monitoring. As a result, this monitoring requirement has been removed.
Thank you for your efforts in maintaining a safe drinking water system. Please contact David Kruse at (385) 566-7789 or dbkruse@utah.gov with any questions regarding the chemical monitoring requirements for this system.
