Director March 18, 2024 ROBERT SHANE OWENS MIDWAY CITY WATER SYSTEM PO BOX 277 MIDWAY, UT 84049 Subject: Notice of Increased Volatile Organic Compounds Monitoring for MIDWAY CITY WATER SYSTEM; UTAH26008 ROBERT SHANE OWENS: A recent statewide audit was conducted on all source monitoring schedules to ensure conformity with applicable portions of R309-205. During the review, the Division of Drinking Water (the Division) found the following sources detected the listed Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) on the given dates: Facility Name Facility ID Analyte Concentration Unit of Measurement Date of Sample MAHOGONY SPRING WS003 XYLENES, TOTAL 0.9 µg/L 7/19/2022 ALPENHOF WELL WS005 TOLUENE 0.7 µg/L 8/1/2023 Although these results are not above the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL), the results require increased monitoring in accordance with R309-205-6(2)(j). Beginning in the second quarter of 2024, the sources listed above are required to be sampled for Volatile Organics each quarter that they provide drinking water to the system. This requirement will remain in place until the system has submitted at least two (groundwater sources) or four (surface water sources) consecutive quarters of Volatile Organics samples in which the results are reliably and consistently below the MCLs. At that time the sample requirement will be reduced to one sample per year. These changes are reflected in the enclosed monitoring schedule and can be viewed anytime online at waterlink.utah.gov.
