During the review, the Division of Drinking Water (the Division) found that a Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) sample was collected from WESTRIDGE PUMP STATION (TP017) on 6/14/2022. In that sample, XYLENES, TOTAL was detected at 1.7 µg/L. Although this is not above the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL), this result requires increased monitoring in accordance with R309-205-6(2)(j). Beginning the second quarter of 2024, KEARNS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT is now required to sample WESTRIDGE PUMP STATION (TP017) for Volatile Organics each quarter that the source provides water to the drinking water system. This requirement will remain in place until the system has submitted at least two (groundwater sources) or four (surface water sources) consecutive quarters of Volatile Organics samples in which the results are reliably and consistently below the MCLs. At that time the sample requirement will be reduced to one sample per year. Systems that have three consecutive annual samples with no detections of any Volatile Organics may apply to return to a one sample every three years schedule. These changes are reflected in the enclosed monitoring schedule and can be viewed anytime online at waterlink.utah.gov.
