Re:Additional Sampling Requirements
Chevron #71887, located at 2003 South Washington Boulevard, Ogden, Utah
Facility Identification No. 1200035, Release FME
Dear Mr. Amato:
On November 4, 2024, the Division of Environmental Response and Remediation (DERR)
received a Second Half 2024 Groundwater Monitoring Report for the above-referenced site. After
reviewing this information, the DERR project manager recommends further groundwater
monitoring. During petroleum storage tank (PST) monitoring activities on September 4, 2024,
groundwater samples indicate Benzene, TPH-GRO, and TPH-DRO concentrations remain above
State-established applicable standards.
For a site to be eligible for closure, two consecutive rounds of groundwater monitoring must
show petroleum contamination below state-established clean-up standards. Since contamination is
located off-site, specifically in MW-23 and MW-24, the contamination must be below the Initial
Screening Levels (ISLs) in these wells.
The DERR project manager recommends at least two additional groundwater monitoring
events, six months apart, to assess the remaining subsurface contamination. Environmental samples
for METEXN, gasoline, and diesel must be analyzed using the methods indicated in the enclosed
Analytical Methods for Environmental Sampling. Silica gel treatment should be included as part of
the TPH-DRO analysis for MW-4 and MW-24.
All environmental samples must be collected by a Utah-certified groundwater and soil
sampler following the sampling protocol outlined in Utah Admin. Code R311-205. The report

associated with these requirements must be submitted to our office within 180 days of receiving
this letter.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact Liberty Coe, the DERR
project manager, at (801) 536-4100.
Sincerely,
Brent H. Everett, Director
Division of Environmental Response and Remediation

1 The following modifications to these certified methods are considered acceptable by the DERR Division Director:
• Dual column confirmation may n ot be required for TP H and BTEXN/MTBE analysis.
• A micro-extraction or scale-down technique may be used for aqueous samples, but only for the
determination of extractable TP H as diesel range organics (C10 – C28).
• Hexane may be used as an extraction solvent.
• *Silica Gel Treatment (SGT) may be used in the determination of Total Recoverable P etroleum Hydrocarbons.
NOTE: The sample preparation method and any modification(s) to a certified method must be reported by the laboratory.
