According to this rule. “A water supplier shall have at least two pumps installed and in operation at a booster pump facility that provides the only means available to meet the minimum distribution system pressure requirements of Section R309-105-9 for the water distribution pipeline served by the facility” The available floor space is limited at the Trixie and Burgin pump stations. At the pump stations, installing a pump in parallel to the right of the existing pump would block access to the electrical equipment; a second pump installed elsewhere would block the walkway and block access to the existing pump, heater, and pressure tank. Rearrangement of all electrical equipment and/or pumps would be necessary to create room for the duplicate pumps. Exception Request The basis for your request for an exception to R309-540-6 is that the Trixie and Burgin pump stations only supply water for flushing toilets, handwashing, and showering in the buildings they serve. The potable water system does not supply fire suppression, or serve any other apparatus, such as an eyewash station, that is critical for public safety. You propose to meet the intent of the rule by the following: The Tintic Consolidated Water system is to keep a spare pump “on the shelf” for use in the case of pump failure, at either of the Trixie or Burgin Booster Pump Stations This spare booster pump could be used in either the Trixie or Burgin Pump Stations. In the event of a pump breakdown, the spare pump would be disinfected and the broken pump would be removed and replaced with the new spare pump. During a pump outage employees would use adjacent alternative restroom and shower facilities. Bottle water will be stored and available on site for employee use and consumption. On this basis, an exception to R309-540-6 (a), Redundant Booster Pumps , is hereby granted for PF001 Burgin Pump Station and PF003 Trixie Pump Station. This Temporary Exception expires on December 31, 2028. You will be required to re-submit an exception request along with confirmation that all conditions outlined in this temporary exception have been fulfilled and obtain an exception renewal prior to December 31, 2028. Exceptions granted by the Division include an expiration date to ensure that the basis and conditions for granting the exception are verified periodically and that the drinking water quality remains protected. After receiving your request, the Division will determine whether this exception can be re-issued. This Temporary Exception may be rescinded any time if new evidence indicates that the conditions of this exception are no longer being met or a public health risk exists due to this exception. The issuance of this exception temporarily resolves your water system’s deficiencies related to PS18 for the PF001 Burgin Pump Station and PF003 Trixie Pump Station.
