On Monday,August 20th 2024,Sorrel River Ranch during a routine water sampling exercise collected water samples from three different distribution points on the local water system.Of which one sample tested positive for trace amounts of E.coli bacteria. As a follow up test another three samples were taken from the system on Friday,August 24th 2024.As per regulation, samples were taken before, from, and after the original bacteria positive location within the water distribution system.Once results from the second test were complete it was found that the original location did still test positive for bacteria;however, the other distribution locations upstream and downstream the original location tested negatively for bacteria. This has confirmed there is E.coli residual in a specific water distribution point on Sorrel River Ranch. What is being done? The presence of E.Coli is commonly caused by the contamination of a water supply by animal waste. We believe the contamination of the distribution point was due to an incomplete bacteria sample collection procedure, such as not disinfecting the location prior to sample collection. The location has since been disinfected. As a precautionary measure our operators have taken steps to investigate other potential causes of the contamination, including, but not limited to: exterior and interior inspections of clearwater, storage, and distribution tanks. The inspection of main water lines to ensure no breaks are present.A thorough inspection of water disinfection equipment (e.g.chemical feeders, feed tanks)and products (e.g.disinfection chemicals & chemical storage). And the replacement and/or cleaning of all distribution points’equipment (e.g.sink faucets, aerators, shower heads). What should the consumer do? ●DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST.Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using,or use bottled water.Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice.Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. ●E.coli are bacteria whose presence indicates that the water may be contaminated with human or animal wastes.Microbes in these wastes can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches,or other symptoms. They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly and people with severely compromised immune systems. ●The symptoms above are not caused only by organisms in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice.People at increased risk should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. For more information, please contact Matt Chambers at 937-681-8850. General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1(800)426-4791 Division website:drinkingwater.utah.gov.
