PROCESS DESCRIPTION: St. George Steel Fabricators, Inc. operates a steel plate, steel vessel, and fabrication facility in Salt Lake City. Raw plate carbon and stainless steel are received by truck or rail car in various thicknesses. The steel is cut to dimension using gas cutting torches and other cutting devices such as sheers, etc. The flatwork typically requires no bending, but does require assembly and welding. Tanks and drums require bending of the plate material. Typically these cylinders are done in several smaller sections to stagger the side seams. A piece of dimensional flat steel is placed in a roller, which will take several passes to bend the item until the ends meet. The cylinders are then placed on rollers and are welded by a giant seam welder as the tubes are rolled. Some items require abrasive blasting and painting. These items are blasted using Green Diamond grit in open air. Air sprayers then paint the items with a minimum spray efficiency of 65%. Once welding and inspections are completed, all final assembly items are added and the products are stored until shipped.
