SITE NAME: Airport West / North Temple Landfill
SITE LOCATION: Salt Lake City
DATE OF SITE VISIT: 16 January 2025
PURPOSE OF SITE VISIT: DERR (David Bird) oversight of field activities at the Airport West VCP site.
FIELD OBSERVATIONS: At ~ 10:30 am, the DERR met SITLA’s contractor, NT Development (Eric Rice),
and concrete crushing subcontractor, Staker Parsons at the site to discuss how the inspection for
possible asbestos containing material (ACM), and processing of concrete into roadbase material is
progressing. The pile of processed material on site has grown. NT Development indicated that the
processed concrete pile now represents approximately 20,000 tons of roadbase. We discussed how the
certified ACM inspector inspects the concrete for potential ACM, in accordance with the plan approved
by the DAQ.
I was told the crushing of concrete is about 13% done, and that no ACM had been identified during the
actual crushing process. The expected timeframe for the crushing of the concrete is 3 months. As of
yesterday, the acquisition of the site by UIPA from SITLA was expected to be today, but is now expected
“next week.”
The DERR left the site at ~12:00 pm.
