Dear Mr. Gurr: The Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control (the Division) has received your request for approval of Waste Stream 9075-07 for management at your Mixed Waste Facility. The request for approval of this waste stream was received by the Division in EnergySolutions’ letter CD-2024-130. Waste Stream 9075-07 consists of Mixed Waste Lab-packs/chemicals to be sorted for either Stabilization or Thermal Desorption (VTD) Treatment. The mineral oil is being used to submerse various reactive metals to avoid reactivity. The reactive metal in oil waste is in glass/plastic jars that are packed inside 5-gallon containers filled with vermiculite, then overpacked in a 55-gallon drum. EnergySolutions will sort the various containers, and either deactivate the hazardous waste codes and solidify the waste matrix, or send to VTD, then dispose of the residual treated waste in the Mixed Waste Landfill Cell.Your CD-2024-130 letter includes the completed Radioactive Waste Profile Record and confirms waste stream9075-07 to be within Class A limits as defined by Utah Rule R313-15-1009. The Licensee may receive and manage the above waste stream provided the waste is received, treated and disposed in accordance with your RCRA Part B Permit and Radioactive Material License UT 2300249.If you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact Kevin Carney at (385) 622-2267.
