RE: Smelter Monthlv Report - Auqust 2024
Rio Tinto Kennecott Utah Copper LLC (KUC) is submitting this letter in
compliance with Approval Order (AO) number DAQE-ANO103460062-23
and Title V Operating Permit (Title V) Number 3500030004. lncluded
herein is the monthly KUC Smelter monthly report for August 2024.
The following sections present data related to the Holman Boiler, Main
Stack particulate and lead emissions, and Main Stack gas flow.
Holman Boiler
The Holman Boiler 30-day average NOx emissions are measured as
outlined in the most recently approved monitoring plan in accordance with
AO condition ll.B.2.b and Title V condition 11.8.23.b.1. On August 6,2024,
KUC submitted an update to the Smelter boiler alternative monitoring plan
for review by UDAQ. Upon approval of the plan, KUC will update this
report accordingly.
The information provided in Table 1 is required to be reported monthly.

** The Holman burner replacement is complete. KUC has completed stack

Notes: Twenty-flve samples were invalidated due to ongoing stack elevator
maintenance issues and stack probe sampling hardware issues. On August
znd-3td,7th - 8th, and 11th - 12th were invalidated due to stack elevator
maintenance problems and 13th through 31't were all invalidated due to stack
probe sampling hardware issues. The staff using the elevator encountered
elevator technical issues during these periods that caused these days to be
missed and have since received additional elevator training. The stack probe
samolino hardware issues was resolved on September 3.2024.
Particulate and lead emissions are measured and calculated in
accordance with the most recently approved monitoring plan. Table 2
summarizes the daily particulate and lead emissions data. The daily main
stack particulate emissions are to be compared with the permit limit of
89.5 lbs/hr as set forth in AO condition ll.B.1.a (H) and Title V condition
tt.B.24.a (i).
Table 3 summarizes the Main Stack particulate and lead emissions
annual data calculations. This includes recovery percentages for
particulate and lead emissions samples and the annual average lead
emissions. The lead annual average emissions are to be compared with
the permit limit of 1 .3 lbs/hr as set forth in AO condition ll.B.1.a (H) and
Title V condition 11.8.24.d.

Main Stack Gas Flow
ln accordance with AO condition 11.B.3.a.6, main stack gas flow may be
estimated in the event that temperature and velocity measurements
malfunction. Table 4 summarizes the instances when main stack gas flow
was estimated.
