Authorization for Rail Facility on Track No. 4 Report

Dear Mr. Hansen:

EnergySolutions hereby submits to the Director a report documenting the temporary use
of Augmented Decontamination Equipment at the Rail Facility on Track No. 4
(authorized on February 8, 2024 via DRC-2020-004306). This report addresses topics
raised in the Director’s variance approval.

The efficacy of the pressure washer change
The 40K pressure washer was effective at removing contamination from railcars and
operating equipment as expected.

Any failures of the system, including leakage
There were no failures of the pressure washer system during the variance time period.
However, during its initial installation, the source hose running the from 40K pressure
washer to the building was observed to be bulging within the protective portion of the
hose. The defective hose was immediately removed from service. Typical signs of normal
wear and tear were also observed (i.e., trigger pressure cylinder, nozzle seals, etc.). These
were remedied through reducing the pressure at the nozzle while in use.

A submittal on the decision of EnergySolutions to incorporate a new pressure
washer for the Rail Wash Facility of Track No. 4.
EnergySolutions is repairing the existing legacy 40K pressure pump, with the intent of
returning it service as the Rail Facility on Track No. 4 as it was previously stationed. If
the 40K pressure pump is unrepairable or financially unreasonable, a new 40K pressure
washer purchase will be considered.
