Anderson, Director Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control P.O. Box 144880 Salt Lake City, UT 84114-4880 Re: Groundwater Quality Discharge Permit Number UGW450005 (GWQDP) — Resolution of BAT Concern, South Ditch Lift Station Pump Dear Mr. Anderson: Due to precipitation events occurring at the Clive Facility in mid-March 2018, the BAT inspector observed water from non-contact runoff above the level of the sump grate in the South Ditch lift station. EnergySolutions maintenance personnel attempted to turn on the lift station pump system and found it was inoperable. In response to this condition, on Friday, March 30, 2018, maintenance personnel used a portable trash pump to begin pumping water from the sump to the Southwest Corner Pond through the existing hose in the South Ditch (manual water removal as per Part 4.17.5 of GWQDP Appendix K). By Tuesday, April 24, 2018, the water in the lift station was removed, the defective pump was replaced, and the pumping system resumed normal operation. Manual water removal required approximately 25 days to complete because water was also present in the ditch upgradient of the lift station and because the facility received an additional 0.43 inches of rainfall on April 7, 2018. This notification is being made in accordance with UAC-R317-6-6.13. The failure was not intentional or caused by Permittee negligence. Contingency actions were implemented as required.
