HomeMy WebLinkAboutDERR-2024-007139VCP/Brownfields Section - Site Visit Report SITE NAME: Christy Mill SITE LOCATION: Leeds, Utah DATE OF SITE VISIT: 29 January 2024 PURPOSE OF SITE VISIT: DERR (David Bird) oversight of Annual Inspection issues and maintenance FIELD OBSERVATIONS: The DERR met the Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration (SI TLA) representative (Aaron Langston) at ~3 pm on 29 January to observe conditions at the Christy Mill repository. The north side of the repository looked like there was no stormwater running onto the surface of the repository, however, as the drainage flowed along the east side, it appeared to begin eroding the east side of the repository as it flowed toward the southeast corner. The DERR and SITLA walked the area to the south of the repository and observed signs of erosion from the repository cover both at the southern edge of the repository and on the surface of the repository heading north from the southern edge. Concrete surrounding fence posts along the southern boundary was, in some cases 6 to 8 inches above the current soil surface of the repository. The DERR and SITLA placed pin flags in about 12 locations to test for concentrations of mercury in the soil. Flags were also placed in about 6 locations to test for the depth of cover soil above the marker barrier within the repository cover. SITLA expects to have a site characterization plan to the DERR for our review in 1-2 weeks outlining the locations discussed in the field and methods to be used. Further discussion of what the action level will be for mercury is also expected, as there has not been, so far, a definitive action level found in the documents for this site. The DERR left the site at ~4:30 pm. SPLIT SAMPLES COLLECTED: No IS THE WORK BEING PERFORMED IN A MANNER CONSISTENT WITH THE ACCEPTED WORKPLAN? N/A
