Subject:RTCR Level 2 Assessment Wasatch Wing &Clay UTAH25180
I would like to thank Woody,Nick (Biz),and Eli for taking the time to meet with Brian Pattee
DDW,Pete Keers DDW,and myself on March 6th,2024,for a Level 2 Assessment (L2)of your
water system.Your willingness to accommodate this request is greatly appreciated.
Observations:
This L2 assessment was triggered by multiple Routine and Repeat TC+EC-samples in the
distribution system,January 2024 and in conjunction with a previous L2 assessment triggered in
November of 2023.
Wasatch Wing &Clay is a Transient Non-Community water system located in Utah County.
The system consists of a Well (WS001)and a 25,000-gallon Wet Well Tank (PF001).Wet well
supplies a Fire suppression pump system for the Lodge building.Culinary system is a pump
pulling water out of wet well into hydropneumatic tanks and then into the distribution system to
supply Clubhouse,Bird cleaning shed,landscape irrigation,and multiple frost-free hydrants for
animal watering.
While performing this L2 assessment it was noticed the check valve had been removed on the
main line supplying water from the well to the wet well tank.This line is designed to be removed
during non-use freezing conditions.The distribution system does remain pressurized when the
well supply is not in use.
At the time of this assessment,the system has been working to make some necessary repairs to
the system.Caps have been ordered to cover the ends of the pipe to keep them protected when
they are disconnected.The system has replaced a threaded hose bib with a smooth-nose sample
tap at the well head to ensure a sanitary sample can be collected from that source.

Conclusions:
1.TC +samples were likely caused by stagnant water/old water age in both your storage tank
and your distribution system.The storage tank does not have an access opening and would
be hard to clean dirt and silt out of.
2.Another potential cause could be your Hydropneumatic Tanks harboring silt and dirt which
have historically been a problem with water systems.
3.Another possible factor contributing to the TC+samples could be the presence of biofilm
buildup in your reservoir and distribution system.Upon inspection,it was observed that
the well head check valve contained an orange,rust-like substance,indicative of biofilm
formation.Biofilm is known to be a potential trigger for Total Coliform positive (TC+)
samples.
Recommendations:
1.It is recommended to separate the drinking water system from the lawn irrigation,bird pen
water,and fire suppression system.One option is to install a plastic water tank inside the
existing building to supply water to the clubhouse and bird cleaning station.This setup
would significantly improve the ease of cleaning and maintenance compared to the current
drinking water system.(DDW permitting approval required to add tank)
2.Clean Storage Tank ST001 on a regular basis,Disinfect as per AWWA C651 standards as
an O&M procedure.
3.Collect water samples when possible after the system has experienced heavy use,such as
during a large shoot or event with high water volume usage.The clubhouse's water supply
is sourced from a lengthy 2-inch line,which increases the likelihood of water stagnation.
4.When removing temporary hose piping from well to tank store hoses in a sanitary location,
cap ends of pipe and disinfect after reinstalling.
5.It is advisable to collect samples from the South Wall tap of the bird cleaning station.This
tap is significantly closer to the water tank and wellhead,ensuring that the water is less
stagnant in the line.Sampling from this location allows you to collect water directly from
the tank,rather than stagnant water that may be sitting in the line running to the clubhouse.
6.Bacteriological Samples:Follow sanitary sampling protocol of sufficient flushing and
disinfection,using a strong chlorine-based solution (applying,allowing contact time,
flushing,sample collection).

7.Inspect the well head building for any openings where pipes or cables enter the structure.
We recommend using steel wool and insulating foam to effectively reduce or eliminate the
risk of rodents entering the structures.
8.Disinfect and flush Hydropneumatic Tanks on a regular basis,Disinfect as per AWWA
C651 standards as an O&M procedure.
