Box 98 Magna UT, 84044 www.northropgrumman.com November 8, 2023 Mr. Doug Hansen, Director Utah Department of Environmental Quality Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control P.O. Box 144880 Salt Lake City, Utah 84114-4880 Re: Satellite Accumulation Area Guidance, Bacchus Facility EPA ID #UTD001705029 Dear Mr. Hansen: This letter is in response to the Division’s request that the Bacchus facility modify the way that we manage our Slum Sheds or Satellite Accumulation Areas (SAA’s) outside of buildings where energetic waste is manufactured and handled at the Bacchus facility. NGSC concurs that these sheds should be managed as Central Accumulation Areas (CAA’s). Our internal Hazardous Operation Procedures (HOPS) require us to remove any energetic waste placed in a slum shed within 3 days, so a change to weekly inspection of the slum sheds completed as required by the CAA rules. Additionally, appropriate modifications to our quick reference guide will be made to reflect the change from SAA to CAA. If you have questions or comments, please contact me at 801-251-2166 or Robert Weston at 801- 251-2303.
