Between December 5 and I 1,2024, Tesoro Refining and Marketing Company LLC in Salt Lake
City, Utah (Tesoro) experienced visible emissions and low NHVcz at the north flare. These
emissions occurred during an unplanned shutdown of the Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU) due
to a mechanical failure.
Chris Kaiser verbally notified Jeremy Marsigli of ongoing issues at the refinery during this time.
CAUSEAIATURE OF RELEASE AND CORRECTIVE ACTIONS:
Operators implemented a procedure to safely secure the unit, and the unit was shut down and
prepared for maintenance activities. Repairs are ongoing at the time of writing.
