6.0 SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the information generated from the screening criteria, COPCs present at
SWMU SS-5 does present a risk to the human population or environment through ingestion,
inhalation, dermal contact, or migration to groundwater before impacted soils are removed, as
described in this report. Therefore, the drain-field will be excavated and hauled to a landfill.
Additional confirmation samples will be collected after remediation and a letter will be provided
to the Division petitioning the Division for a letter of “No Further Action” for SWMU SS-5.
However, during the investigation, the extent of contamination was found close to a high-power
pole and associated guywire. Remediation at the site will include excavation of soils at the base
of both of these structures. Therefore, NGSC is petitioning the Division for a “deferral of work
needed” letter allowing SS-5 to remain “as is” until the high-power pole and associated guywire
are no longer in use and can be removed.
